NYC – Day 5

Agenda:
*9/11 Memorial
*Lady Liberty
*Broadway show – Hello Dolly

Even in this tall city, The Freedom Tower stands out from the crowd.

Untitled

Beautiful calming fountains dedicated to all those tragically lost encompass the land where the Twin Towers once stood. Ground Zero took my breath away.

Untitled

Inside gave you a look into the depth, literally, of this life changing event for our country.

Untitled

The survivor stairs that gave many a chance at life.

Untitled

After that, it was time to see what does make our county great, today. Not again. Today. Lady Liberty via the free Staten Island Ferry!

Untitled

Selfies with the Statue!

Untitled

Untitled

Ferry hair. Don’t care.

Untitled

A beautiful free way to see the cityscape of NYC.

Untitled

Back on land, we cleaned up and headed across the street (again) to Shubert Theatre. Better Midler and David Hyde Pierce were awaiting our arrival to see the classic Hello Dolly! The only tickets we bought pre-arrival to NYC.

Untitled

The show was a classic Broadway production! And Bette was a doll to watch perform live and really enjoy her roll not too seriously. What an end to our trip! Are we ready to go home yet?! No!

Lake Freeman

Captain Jack & his first mate have invited us to their lake house every year. This year, we finally made arrangements to spend some time on Lake Freeman. I was super excited until I got there to find this….

Untitled

WTF. Not again. Is this really why you invited me there?! Of course I had to dig in when my puzzle gene took over. We didn’t get it finished, but I did get it to a place where the Labor Day crew would get it done. Hell, L started this in January! After they would drag me away from it, we got some Rummikub in! Had to teach the college kid this old school game.

Untitled

We woke up to a beautiful blue sky and ready to take a boat ride! But not until my parents arrived! Always a blessing when they can join our festivities!

DSCN0159

Great low and high bridge architecture to check out!

DSCN0163

We had to make the tourist stop at the sand bar. Little different than I’m used to. People literally run their boats up into the sand bar. Anchors aren’t needed here!

Untitled

But is a grill needed? Yes please! I don’t even like hot dogs, but the thought of a grilled dog from the boat? Count me in.

Untitled

Come dinner time, we were ready for a hearty steak!

Untitled

Great friends, great memories. And I’ll have this memory to laugh at forever!

100 Acre Ride

With CS’s new love of biking, I figured we have lots of spots to visit on 2 wheels. I bought a granny basket so we can travel in style! Packed snacks and bevs, let’s go!

Untitled

First trip… 100 Acres Park for a picnic!

Untitled

We grabbed a bench at the lake to take in the fresh air. So peaceful.

Untitled

We made our own art project!

Untitled

I just love this park. So much to see, do, explore. Go visit! It was a great 20 mile ride for us!

This Might Be A Bad Idea

46 miles across Indianapolis looks like this.

2017 Urban

With a new team this year (Previously), we needed a new name and new shirts to race the 2017 IndyQuest Adventure Race. Since CS has heard about the race every year, he said he was interested in racing. Hmmm. I thought… That might be a bad idea. So our team name was born, This Might Be A Bad Idea. My super gym-mate MH was on board. Alright we are doing this! Here is the selection I sent my team.

Untitled

Of course, the $4.97 Snaccident shirt won. I even had to admit that it is pretty funny. After a long day of racing, we were pooped.

Untitled

We were able to catch up with other racers sharing our experiences of the day.

Untitled

Did you get that checkpoint?
How long did it take you to do the puzzle?
Are your clothes dry yet??

After food and bevs, we were a much happier team!

Untitled

And even scored 2nd place in our division! Not too shabby for this group!

Untitled

Happy to report the poison ivy was very contained this year. Phew. We’ll be back.

4th of July Weather

Last 4th of July was soooo cold.

Untitled

This year, we had a bit of heavy rain for 10 minutes.

Untitled

But we all were prepared!

Untitled

After that rainstorm shit, we got to enjoy this!

Untitled

Ahh let’s relax tonight… or let’s box and I’ll taunt you with my low blow punch moves!

K sent me this AMAZING video because she knew of my love for this guy.

Whoever buys me my own Trex costume for Christmas is my new best friend. “Just sayin” Then I saw this… might have gone too far with the Trex costume on AGT.

Untitled

Clearly Trex arms are not meant for pole dancing.

14hr : 41hr

25% drive time for 75% memory making time… pack it up and let’s head to KC for some family time. Let’s go on a boat!

Untitled

The paddle boards even made the trek West. We had a new taker ready to try it out. The low center of gravity always helps.

Untitled

Weird thing about this lake, the trees are petrified into the soil so these barren wood sticks shoot out of the lake everywhere! Not just the coast line, literally in the middle of the lake too. Watch your props people.

Untitled

Ok, next activity, let’s take in a Royals Game!

Untitled

Felt like a wolf-pack moment. First game for this kid!

Untitled

I was intrigued by the vendor’s carrying methods.

Untitled

We didn’t get a Royals win, but it was a win to be together.

Untitled

Sunday, was down time day. Just hanging out, lots of pictures, and 2 important birthdays to celebrate. But the highlight of my trip, was this…. I scored myself a new best friend.

Untitled

I think it was our matching hair styles! Every one that entered the room, whether it was their first time or tenth time entering, they got with a finger point at me “Hey, that’s Natalee!” Every time he entered the room… “Where’s Natalee?” Cuteness achieved!

What The Duck?

What to do on a Sunday afternoon? Let’s ride bikes to Broad Ripple and watch some ducks swim down the canal. What???

BRVA sponsors the Canal Duck Race. I know this race was around last year, but not sure how long it’s history is. I remember seeing signs, and since we were in town this year, we hopped on our bikes and headed down the Monon. 30 minutes later, we run into this guy! They even have a mascot!

Untitled

So we sponsor some ducks and grabbed some seats at Flatwater to wait for the race to start. We hear the count down and then heeeeeeeeeeere they come!

Untitled

Did I mention they are rubber ducks?! Go ducks 1707, 1708, 1709, 1710, 1711, and 1712!!

Untitled

Untitled

Untitled

It was absolutely hilarious and adorable at the same time. All these families were out crowding the Canal and enjoying the great weather.

This guy may have had the best job. Chuckin’ ducks back into the canal that got caught on the rocks.

duck

Panorama shot of the madness. It was so hilarious. Must definitely take part again next year!

Untitled

After the race, you can pick up your ducks and take them home. We did. We wanted to show them what clean water looked like… Hello pool! I could hear the duckies going “Ahhhhhh blue water!”

Untitled

Let’s See-attle Some Orcas (Day 2)

I’ve been waiting for this moment my WHOLE LIFE! Bring me my orcas!

Untitled

Our boat arrived for the last tour of Orcas in Puget Sound. Cool thing about this boat was it had a front open bow and stern.

Untitled

So the driver said “Hold on!” We are going to cruise out at 40 MPH to get us to the whales as quick as possible. Then you can get out in the open air. Good man, let’s go!

Untitled

When the first dorsal fin showed up, I cried. I’ve had a dream of seeing Orca whales in the wild since I was a little girl. It took all I had not to jump in and just let life take it’s course!

Untitled

These creatures are AMAZING!

Untitled

Untitled

Untitled

Ocean hair, don’t care!

Untitled

We were very fortunately to run into a super-pod of Orcas. About 20! AHHHHHHHHH! So that meant a few pods got together for some socialization and play. The boat crew lowered a mic down into the water and you could hear them communicating to each other. AHHHHHHHHHHH! This was an experience on a whole other level. Normally you only see 3-4 at a time. We got 20. Thank you Orca Gods for blessing us with this experience! I will never forget it.

I’ll work on some better video. For now, here’s a short clip. Look for the fins and water sprays from them breathing out the blowhole. Think white water misting.

Let’s See-attle (Day 1)

More travel? Yes please! I asked K if we could sleep like this while in Seattle.

Untitled

While AM had to work, we took advantage of doing a few activities that she’d already done. Let’s see the Seattle Aquarium! We were greeted with the Window, a 120,000-gallon exhibit filled with more than 800 fish and spans 20 x 40 feet. That’s a tank.

Untitled

Lots of variety in fish and exhibits.

Untitled

Untitled

Untitled

Then some WTF is that tanks?!

Untitled

Untitled

The Underwater Dome was pretty cool. Fish were swimming everywhere. Especially when the diver came in for the daily feeding frenzy.

Untitled

Untitled

Untitled

Untitled

Except these guys.

Untitled

Untitled

I had to ask the why these fish were settled, not moving, and even upside down. They are called rockfish and can control their buoyancy by deflating or inflating their swim bladder. They just looked so grumpy!

Estrella, Zoltars wife, read us our prophecies. We waited for Big to happen, but we didn’t switch bodies.

rUntitled

Next stop was the Chihuly Garden and Glass experience. Oh man! THIS WAS AMAZING. I don’t have enough words to describe the beauty behind this man’s art creations. From the very 1st exhibit, my jaw was on the ground.

Untitled

2nd room was a massive collection of pieces, shapes, and colors.

Untitled

I couldn’t get enough of this room!

Untitled

Untitled

Chihuly Garden and Glass

I learned Chihuly was inspired by Native American colors and patterns.

Untitled

Each room just dazzled us with color and brilliance.

Untitled

Me standing in front to show you how massive these pieces are.

Untitled

Untitled

There were bowls…

Untitled

Boats full of imaginative pieces. We felt like we were in Willy Wonka’s garden!

Untitled

It keeps going….

Untitled

My favorite piece, this pointy orange chandilier. Just gorgeous!

Untitled

Glass house ceiling was covered in floral pieces.

Untitled

Even the gardens and outside walkways had pieces.

Untitled

The rain couldn’t stop us from having a great experience.

Untitled

Untitled

Untitled

This exhibit is right next to the Space Needle. This neon green thing, is glass!

Untitled

Mama commissioned me to purchase a piece for a several hundred dollars. Sorry Charlie. We aren’t even close!
