My current gym, Lifestyle Family Fitness (LFF), just got bought out by Life Time Fitness (LTF). I was happy for the change, until the rumors started. I pay $32 a month for unlimited use of pool, sauna, spa, equipment and almost all group classes. Our first letter from our new owners says "...For the time being, Life Time will subsidize the difference between your rate and a new member rate ($51.00)." Ok, sure. But for how long? I was willing to wait a month or 2 to find out until I learned that Life Time doesn't support the Les Mills training programs that is the basis for all classes at Lifestyle. I've gotten accustomed to these classes and trainers and am not interested in a full change up program that I may or may not like for more money (because they will raise the rates). My decision was made to quit the gym. I've outline what it took below. I included the phone numbers in case anyone else in the world runs into this problem.
Step 1 - Find out how to cancel:
After class last Wednesday, I stopped by the front desk and ask how I can cancel my membership. I was given a business card with a number to call, 877-457-1905.
Step 2 - Call LFF:
With the holidays, I delayed my call to this morning. At 8:30am, I called. For 10 minutes I waited on hold to be given a voicemail message saying everyone was busy and that someone would call me back with in 1 business day. Fine.
Step 3 - Wait for LFF to call:
LFF called around 11am. Girl on the other end says she can only note in her system that I want to cancel. I will need to call Life Time, as they now own my membership, at 888-430-6432 to cancel. I asked why I was given the LFF number if there is nothing they can do. She said it's a safety check in case Life Time doesn't get it right. Whatever.
Step 4 - Call LTF:
Called 888-430-6432 and got a message that the number was no longer working. WTF?
Step 5 - Find a new LTF number to call:
Got on the inter-web and couldn't find a corporate number. Called the local Life Time gym and asked to cancel. She says, you'll have to come into the club to do that. I stated I was a Lifestyle convert and was told I could just call but the number wasn't working. She repeats the same number from step 3. I said no, give me a better one. I was given the corporate number 888-430-5433.
Step 6 - Call 2nd LTF number:
An operator answered right away. I said I wanted to cancel my membership. I was directed to a queue where I waited 15 minutes. Ryan on the other end says "Oh you are a Lifestyle member, I can't help you as I don't have access to those files. I can direct you to that queue." Hold up! I didn't want my only avenue to be sitting in a queue waiting. Again. He gave me an email address that I can send my request to as well. Fine. Put me in the queue now. 15 more minutes of waiting and I get Becca. "How can I help you?" "Cancel my membership please" "Ok I can take care of that.... ok, you are cancelled." "That's it?" "Yep." "Thank you, good bye."
I just called the first LTF number again to double check. Yep, it's working now with the first option being "If you are a Lifestyle member, press 1." Can I get that hour of my life back please?
