B2B - Post Race

Now to the FUN parts of my trip...  Well, this is not so fun.  Ipod red-line:

I'm not sure I'll be able to even out the knee brace one all summer!  So after the run/hell I had been put through, I had actually packed some clothes with the brillant thought that we'd all hang out in Lawrence Kansas for a little bit.  That quickly changed once I started walking to the car.  I wanted to go home, suck my thumb, get a drink, and take a shower.  The car was parked blocks away and I couldn't make it. So BruceBruce and K sat me on a flower pot and brought the car to me.  As I was sitting there a nice old man came up and asked "Did you run all the way from Kansas City here?"  Yes I did.  "How was it?"  I don't recommend it.

The drive back to the hotel seemed to take forever.  Kept forgetting we were at a minimium, 44 miles away.  Arrived back to the non-elevator hotel that we had.  Our room was on the second floor and those stairs were not fun.  We all cleaned up and waited for the HoneyBadger, a.k.a. Brooks, to arrive.  He introduced us to these 2 gems that kept us laughing for the remainder of our trip.

To celebrate the my victory, finishing, and HoneyBadger's victory, yeah he got first place or something, we popped the finest beverage in the land, Peach Spumante.  Or Peach Spoo as we like to call it.

The ice bag?  Precautionary.  No injuries to report, just did because it sounded like a good idea.  BruceBruce wasn't feeling so hot, so he stayed at the hotel while us kids went to play with some other Ultra runners from the day.  We met up with a crew at Jack Stacks at the Plaza for a quick bite then headed over to Kelly's for some putt-putt Midwest style.

Monday we decided to go back to the Plaza because it had a lot to do and see.  HoneyBadger met Ben Franklin and wanted to shake his hand.

We ate at some Irish pub where we were the only ones in there.  Kept forgetting it was a Monday and most people were working while we were playing.  At lunch, HoneyBadger shares a story that he's run 59 consecutive days in a row and has to keep the streak alive. During the race I had sworn off running for an entire month and this d*ck was saying he was going to run today?  I took my my crazy pill that morning and decided to be the best friend ever and join him.  You can see how I felt about my decision.

But before we do that, let's go lose some money!

We got back to the hotel, suited up for the run and headed out and found a hill that seemed like it wanted us to run up it.

I took some video but didn't get it merged yet with the others from the trip. We found some monument that HoneyBadger needed to take a dump on which also ended up being next to a middle school with kids playing.  He's so smart.  My watch died but we figure we went about 2 miles. It actually felt pretty good. It was later after sitting for a bit, that the legs started hurting again.

We planned on bar hopping Monday night after watching Butler play the worst second half of NCAA basketball they could ever have.  Another Colorado runner joined us for some antics.  Introducing the white Lil' Jon.

K had wrote a bunch of places down so we picked the Flying Saucer strictly based on its name. It had some couch seating and steel tipped darts to keep us occupied. The dart boards were surrounded by china plates on the walls.  Didn't seem like a smart idea as we were playing darts without using your hands.  I won the first game but not the second so I tried to take the HoneyBadger down.

After a little research, we found the 1 bar that was open til 3am and it had shuffleboard!  The waitress said it was 9 blocks away.  I was the only one in the crew who wanted to cab it.  I got overruled and we huffed it through the KC Power and Light district at 1am playing our own zombieland games because it was a ghost town.  Pool and shuffleboard ensued until they kicked us out.

Tuesday arrived and it was time to go home.  Yea but boo.  Grabbed a quick bite near the hotel and got on the road because we had plans.  While we were out this way, K and I really wanted to tour the St. Louis Arch.

BruceBruce had been before as a kid but he graciously allowed us to get real excited for this event.  He even made a new friend.

You had to wait in line for about 30 minutes before you got in.  I needed a chair but couldn't find one so I curled up to rest.

You have to ride 5 in a car in egg shaped capsules. Not recommended for anyone claustrophobic. The doors were really tiny, about 4 feet tall.

Once at the top, there are several small windows you can look out of. It was pretty bare bones up there. You really are just standing on steel.  A few shots from the top.

Not sure of the reason why I posed like this.

Driving away...

DSCN0394

We still had a long drive in front of us so BruceBruce and K wanted to fuel up at Ponderosa.  Gross except for the ham cubes which ended up being more ham strips.  I stuck with a safe loaded salad while they got their grub on.

We got home close to midnight.  It was one long fun awful trip.  Glad I had so many great friends to make memories with on this road trip!
